When Does SSI Hit My Bank Account?

If you’re receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) through direct deposit, one of the biggest questions each month is: “When will the money actually land in my account?”
While the Social Security Administration (SSA) sends payments on a predictable schedule, the exact timing can vary depending on your bank or card provider.
In this guide, we’ll cover:
The official SSI deposit schedule
How banks and cards process SSI payments
When Purple users typically receive their SSI
What to do if your payment is delayed
How to get your deposit earlier
1. When Are SSI Payments Sent?
SSI is normally deposited on the 1st of each month.
If the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday, SSA sends the money on the business day before.
Examples:
If the 1st is a Monday, the deposit may hit that morning
If the 1st is a Saturday, the deposit is typically sent Friday the 30th
SSA processes payments in advance so banks have time to credit accounts.
2. Why the Timing Varies by Bank
Even though SSA sends payments early, not all banks or cards release the money right away.
Some banks:
Hold deposits until the 1st, even if they receive the funds earlier
Post deposits only during business hours
May delay payment if the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday
That’s why two people may receive their SSI at different times, even if they’re both eligible on the same day.
3. When Does SSI Hit for Purple Users?
At Purple, we make your SSI available as soon as we receive the deposit file from SSA — often up to 4 days early¹.
Typical timeline for Purple users:
Friday, if the 1st is on Monday
Wednesday or Thursday, if the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday
Real-time notifications when your deposit hits — no need to keep checking
4. What If My SSI Payment Is Late?
If your payment hasn’t arrived by the expected date:
Check your SSA “my account” portal to confirm it was sent
Contact your card or bank to see if it’s pending
Call SSA directly at 1-800-772-1213 if it’s more than 2 business days late
At Purple, our support team is trained in SSI and SSDI rules — we’re happy to help track things down.
5. Get Paid Earlier with Purple
Here’s how Purple gives you more control:
